This wall mounted head planter is based after the Madonna's head in a relief sculpture by Michelangelo called the Tondo Pitti. I made it as part of a slab building demonstration. There is an opening at the top of her earthy veil that can hold a plant potted in a small plastic pot. You get to choose your own plant hairstyle. It is designed to catch excessive water that may drip from the pot inside the neck and chin of the sculpture.

It is about 10 inches tall by 8 inches wide by 5 inches deep. It is suitable for indoors or out.

It is made of a deep brown recycled stoneware clay body, and has an iron oxide stain with slip painted eyes.

It's an ancient feeling piece that seems to remind me that with an open mind there is space to grow.
