A glass molecule model of the neurotransmitter responsible for our sense of reward and smooth motion of our bodies. It's believed that dopamine is what helps us learn about our environment, but it also regulates a myriad of other aspects - such as sleep and sensory perception. We do know that when an anticipated reward for an action, such as chocolate, is taken away, the release of dopamine is much lower. Its role is very complex and essential in our lives, moment to moment.

A model of this essential bit of chemistry is the perfect gift for any scientist - professional, amateur, or just armchair enthusiast.

Since I started working with glass, it was my dream to create unique items that stimulated the imagination. I wanted to make molecule models that inspired the same delight in science enthusiasts that a glass dragon or a dolphin would in someone who loves art. Scientists need art, too!

The oxygen is represented by small cobalt blue spheres, the nitrogren by red ones, hydrogen by clear, and the carbon by black. The double bonds are a mixture of red and blue glass rods. About 2.5 inches at its tallest, 4.5" at its longest, 1/2" thickness on average. Comes with a description card and a small box.

It's made of borosilicate (pyrex) glass, lampworked on a torch that heats up glass to unearthly hot temperatures and then properly annealed in a kiln to prevent cooling shock. Though it probably won't withstand any serious falls (being a fragile glass item), if anything were to break for any other reason, I will fix it for you. Just contact me and send it back.

Note: The model you receive may vary very ever so slightly from the one shown in the image, as I make all the glass objects by hand and don't use a mold.
