Manhattan on Mercury
-presents-
Orientalism

My inspiration as of late has been dwelling in the land of the Belle Epoque and the few years lingering beyond the end of the "Golden Era" into the 1920's.
That time in history where Western European and American Ladies had been trained to be proper, modest and that exposing skin was risque. These "Victorian's" (I use that term loosely) were gravitating back to exoticism and sexuality and it was a recipe for something amazing in the aesthetic and fashion world.

Wikipedia reads: "Orientalism" is more widely used to refer to the works of the many 19th century artists, who specialized in "Oriental" subjects, often drawing on their travels to North Africa and Western Asia.

From the romantic works of the pre-raphaelites, to the ostentatious and intricate designs from the art nouveau movement and that Hungarian prodigy, Mucha, to the raucous, roaring twenties. All of these era's captivate me. They transformed the average woman into an earthen goddess. It was elaborate clothing meets decadent cascading jewelry nothing was spared as it had been so many times before throughout the history of fashion where one was typically sacrificed for the other: clothing for jewelry or jewelry for clothing.
I think today its making a come back... without the tackiness of the 80's...

This collar takes many attributes of ancient Egyptian aesthetics, but so much else about is undeniably Victorian. It was designed to sit up against the necklace and hold tight there. It is large, pronounced and wants to be noticed.
Wear it with something the leaves your shoulders bare. Probably one of the sexiest things you can do with a piece of jewelry is let it trickle down your back.

This piece is made with all solid brass, silver plated brass and swarovski crystals and pearls. They are nickel and lead free, and rich in detail.

- 5 x 2.75"(13x7cm) plastron/pendant
