Constructed of laminated and molded plywood, like Eames lounge chairs and Plycraft chairs, this sculptural modernist Plymold bench is architectural salvage and came from an old dental office that was torn down this summer. It dates to the 1960s or 1970s.

As this is a vintage Plymold Walton Series, it varies from most of their booths in that it hangs directly on a wall.

This is a stunning design element, a total visual surprise, as it looks like the seat is 'FLOATING' in mid air. It offers so many options in terms of design and decorating, because it has no literal footprint. It only requires wall space ready for an unusual accent treatment.

So... entry, hall, man cave, mud room, living room, breakfast nook, office (surprising comfortable, very ergonomically designed), dressing room, bathroom, patio, shop, art gallery, book store, children's room or nursery... endless po's. ("poe"...potentials).

The floating bench is about 29-1/4" wide, 19" high and 14" -15" deep, more or less (hard to capture with that sculpted bend).

The top color is that fascinating oyster white found in the 1960s / 70s, like Saarinen tulip tables or Italian upholstery, in almost a powder coating like texture. The molded sides are natural wood, stained a medium brown, and the back is a solid brown paint color.

The molded plywood seat is screwed to heavy-duty steel brackets. You fasten a heavy-duty bolt to a stud at the height you want, and the upper part of the back bracket has an opening to slot the bolt into to hold the bench up flush to the wall., Another, smaller hole in the mounting bracket is down below to fasten it to the wall again with a heavy screw (screw and bolt not included, demo people tossed them, sigh).

To accommodate your stud width, simply unscrew one of the brackets and move it to the left or right so the mounting holes are centered on your studs, then refasten the screws. This has been done to them in the past.

Other than some scratches in the thin wood exposed sides, easily touched up with matching stain (don't get any on the white, tho!), these are in remarkably good condition. The oyster white coating is good, showing some wear, and the wood is good, no splits, splinters, cracks.

Organic modernist elegance, very rare and unusual design piece with a twist of original surprise.

SHIPPING IS VIA GREYHOUND, that's why it's so affordable! I will send it to the bus station nearest you that accepts freight. Not all do. Will need to be picked up there.
