This gift basket is the perfect gift for people who love to make wood-based fires. It is also a great present for people who are fire-starting-challenged (I have several people in my own family who are challenged in this manor - which is why I originally started making these!).

This christmas-colored gift basket includes a variety of 5 medium-sized Pinecone Fire Starters. Including red, cranberry-scented Pinecone Fire Starters and green pine-scented Pinecone Fire Starters all cheerily decorated with little snowflakes. The basket also includes 4 petite Fire Starters which were made in nutcups and filled with a varying combination of sawdust, woodchips, bits of pinecone, and candlewax. The petite Fire Starters are also include a variety of green, red, and off-white colors.

All of our Fire Starters are made using as many recycled, repurposed, and found items as possible. The pinecones were all taken from our yard and contain no pesticides. The wood chips and sawdust were collected from various wood-cutting jobs. The wax used to fill the nutcups (and to dip the pinecones in), all came from broken tapers and column candles that other people had been ready to throw or give away.

Even the wicking used in the Fire Starters has been reclaimed. The nutcups wicks are either recycled birthday candles or wicking removed from old candles. The pinecone Fire Starters have been wound with natural-fiber strings or twines that other people were giving away.

All of our Fire Starters come with instructions (see the bottom of the basket) on how to use our Fire Starters. The following directions are found on the sticker:

Basics of Fire Starting – A Fire Starter keeps a flame going for 5-10 minutes. That allows larger pieces of wood to catch fire and build up enough heat to continue burning.

Store Fire Starters safely (as you would any flammable object) until you are ready to use them. When you want to start a fire, put ignition materials (paper etc) and kindling in place. Then nestle the Fire Starter (or starters) in the middle of the kindling. Set fire to the wicks on the Fire Starter and to the ignition materials. The Fire Starters should continue to burn for five to ten minutes. Wax from the Fire Starters will melt onto the kindling and burn. This should help your wood to catch fire quite well.

Our Fire Starters should only be used to start wood fires in a fireplace, chiminea, or campfire. Please note that the wax will melt and run! Because of this, these fire starters should not be used in a fireplace where there are holes that would allow the melted, burning wax to run out of, nor should the fire starters be used in a location where the melted, burning wax could escape the fire containment area. These Fire Starters should NEVER be used in gas, charcoal, or other non-wood fuel fires!!
