Living in the city of St. Louis and being a nature lover at heart, I find peace in noticing moments in which wildlife appears within the urban landscape. This piece started when I found an image of a building that had the same color palette as autumn field. Green, orange, and red, became the colors that I built around by incorporating upholstery samples, paint chips, and glitter glue. A dark green sewing sample with a series of stitched lines and uncut thread, became in my mind both a landscape and the linear perspective of a building. I cut and carved into the gesso of the canvas to reveal layers beneath, one cut portion became a window to a 1970 photo of a sunset. I tried to suggest flowers through collage, paint blobs, thread, and felt flowers that hang down from the side of the canvas. My city covers and builds on nature and nature regrows and reclaims the city. The final size of this is 12 x 12 in with thread and flower appendages.
