One vintage typewriter key.

All of the typewriter keys we sell in our shop are authentic, repurposed keys, all over 60 years old. As a result, the keys show a bit of wear, and often have imperfections on the rims or faces. I think this is what adds to their character and beauty. The Japanese have a practice called wabi sabi, which, in its simplest form, means beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". Wabi sabi is a school of thought where one learns to find the most simple objects interesting, fascinating and beautiful. Fading autumn leaves is a great example. Wabi sabi can change our perception of the world to the extent that a chip or crack in a vase makes it more interesting and gives the object greater meditative value. Similarly materials that age, such as bare wood, paper and fabric become more interesting as they exhibit changes that can be observed over time.

The Crafty Store celebrates the art of wabi sabi in our typewriter keys. Each imperfection represents a stroke of the key that may have been used to write love letters, that first great novel, or poetry to a distant friend. Your typewriter keys will be a combination of modern functionality with the charm of the past, each one of a kind, with its own story to tell. Just like you.

One vintage typewriter key, the letter V, chosen at random from a Smith Corona, Royal, Remington or Underwood typewriter.

We've done the hard work for you - The Crafty Store typewriter keys are flat on the back, which, if you've ever wrestled a key off a typewriter and then tried to grind it flat, you know is a time consuming, arduous process. These are authentic, mid 20th century keys, whose rims and faces show their age, but that's part of their character!

These keys work beautifully with all of our 15mm typewriter key findings - make rings, bracelets, earrings, cufflinks, & necklaces with the findings sold in our shop. Have fun!!

You will receive one typewriter key, chosen at random from our eclectic collection (as pictured). If you have specific color/serif-sans serif font requests, please let us know, and we will try to accomodate.

Sold individually. Please send convo if you'd like larger quantities. Thanks!
