Fabric inspired by the Gone With The Wind Barbecue Party Dress

Introducing a delicate bouquet that was handpicked by Pegée® of Williamsburg from the floral design on Scarlet O’Hara’s Barbecue Party Dress from Gone With The Wind. This design was fashioned after the original in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The original fabric was silk organza, hand silk screen printed by Walter Plunkett. Only the amount of yardage required to make the Barbecue Party Dress was printed in 1938. Up until Peggy’s recreation of the Barbecue Party Dress Fabric, this had never been done before.

The artistic ability to create separate color drawings that matched perfectly is not a trait every artist has. The images in these drawings were carefully woven together, and the images and color selections were closely matched to the original dress owned by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The end result was a single image, for negative plates, which was a unique ability in itself. The finite lines, each one carefully drawn, took considerable practice to perfect. Much time was necessary to develop this skill.

In 1999, the green floral design on Scarlett O’Hara’s Barbecue Party Dress was printed on fabric, and eleven years of meticulous research had culminated in the creation of this stunning design. The fabric is ecru color polyester organza with the signature design on top. Previously, it was only sold in 18-yard increments that are 48 inches wide, but now we are selling this beautiful fabric by the yard for you to create the dress or whatever you hope to make.

The amount of fabric required to make the bodice with ruffled flounce, and the outer layer of the skirt is 18 yards. The 18 yards of fabric will make a dress for women of a shorter stature. If you are over 5'4" and interested in making the dress, we suggest purchasing 20 yards to make the dress longer for your frame. The price per yard is $34.50 for a total of $621.00.
