This dazzling 3-strand necklace is signed Trifari. Gustavo Trifari was born in Naples, Italy in 1883 and trained as a goldsmith under his grandfather, Luigi. In 1904 he emigrated to New York and began making costume jewelry with an uncle. Around1910, he and his uncle founded Trifari and Trifari. In 1912, Gustavo branched out on his own and began to make high-quality pieces under the name Trifari. Trifari made a wide range of jewelry and was a competitor of Coro.

I love the design of this necklace, in which the beautiful glass and crystal beads are spaced with matte gold tone textured thin cylinders. The necklace showcases gorgeous dimpled flattened round glass beads with a transparent dark amber color and an extraordinary shine. Then there are the very rare vintage Swarovski round flattened ultrafaceted colorado topaz aurora borealis crystals. Both the crystals and the dark amber beads are flanked by by softly faceted transparent colorado topaz-colored glass beads. The shortest strand of this necklace, including the clasp, is 15 inches, and the necklace has a 2 1/2 inch extender. All of the beads, including the crystals, are in terrific condition.

I am new to Etsy, but I have sold my handmade jewelry, vintage beads, and vintage jewelry on eBay for over ten years. On eBay I have over 6000 feedbacks, 100% of which are positive. If you read my Etsy profile, you will find that I have spent a significant part of my life searching the world for the very finest vintage beads and vintage jewelry. My specialty is beaded costume jewelry, which is a very difficult genre to collect. It’s hard to find jewelry in which every bead in the set is in good condition. In addition, one has to know the background of every type of bead imaginable. As an MIT professor who studies the brain, I know how to move into a new field and learn everything that I can about it, and that is what I have done in the field of vintage beads and jewelry. When I am not dreaming up experiments, I’m researching the background of the many treasures that I have collected. My collection of treasures allows me to offer three categories of items: my artisan jewelry that incorporates vintage crystal, glass, and Lucite beads; vintage necklaces, jewelry sets, and brooches; and vintage beads and findings (sold under “rnevebeads” on Etsy)
