Wonderful examples of the traditional art form of the Krobo tribe, these beads are made of recycled glass, and have a dark blue background with a pattern of yellow bands, white dots and sunbursts in gold. Average size is about 9x16mm, with large holes (between 2mm and 2-1/2mm). Like most Krobo beads, these are made from recycled glass ground up by hand in a large mortar and pestle, and then fired using traditional techniques, i.e. homemade clay molds, homemade clay ovens fired with wood, and hand painting.

You will receive a circlet of beads like the one pictured. All proceeds from sales go to support Soul of Somanya, a non-profit organization that offers training and sustainable employment at a living wage to young jewelry artisans in the Krobo region of Ghana, West Africa. Soul of Somanya buys Krobo beads at market prices to offer for resale in the global marketplace. In addition to boosting local bead sales, this helps us to pay our jewelry artisans a consistent living wage while simultaneously increasing the visibility of, and demand for, these beautiful little works of art. To date, we have shipped Krobo beads to well over two dozen countries worldwide. We adhere strictly to fair trade principles.
