Great conversation piece! This is a precious combo. Antique eyewear and book. Paired together they would look lovely on a shelf or on an antique desk.

The book is so interesting to read. It was a Christmas gift to a sunday school teacher by her student in 1880. What follows on the pages are short written notes (most seem to be portions of quotes and poems,) all friendly and uplifting. A few are in another language, which appears to be Danish. Most of the handwriting is lovely. Here is an example:

"There is no life so sad
But that some hope may enter;
No heart so altogether bad
But good may enter in it's centre
There is no night so long
That sunbeams may not scatter;
No storm so loud and strong
That God's will cannot shatter."
-Your Friend Hannah Hansen

and

Dear Auntie,
Our joys may oft be tender shadows
That grief alone had power to cast;
Yet shine, as shine in summer meadows
The bright drops when the cloud has past
Your nephew, Gustav

And many many more.

A nice peek into 1880s friendship between students and teacher.
