This is a custom PC board I designed that you can use to make your own homebrew NES games with, or repair old games that no longer work. This board can be used to make NROM, CNROM, AxROM, UxROM games. Just solder the pads on the back of the board, and solder the appropriate parts on the top of the board!

View the guide on how to make games with this board at my website: https://bit.ly/33nNalJ

This board accepts the 27C series of EPROM, from 27C256 to 27C080. It also accepts flash memory chips like the 39SF010, 020, and 040. ROMs should be padded to fill up the entire space of the chip, by duplicating the ROM (for example, a 128K ROM on a 1M device should be duplicated eight times).

Here are a list of parts you will need based on the game type you want to make.
NROM: 2x ROMs (CHR and PRG)
CNROM: 2x ROMs (CHR and PRG), 74HC161
AxROM: 1x ROM (PRG), 1x SRAM (CHR, 6264 series), 74HC161, 74HC02
UxROM: 1x ROM (PRG), 1x SRAM (CHR, 6264 series), 74HC161, 74HC32
You will need a CIC (or a clone CIC on ATTINY13) to play on non-top-loader NES consoles. Also, you will need one electrolytic capacitor (C1, 22uF) and one ceramic capacitor (C2 - C6, 100nF) for each chip you use on the board.

I offer a handful of packages with varying included components - except for the PCB alone, all include a pre-programmed CIC and all necessary capacitors (the parts are not attached to the board, but come separately for you to solder yourself):
- Bare PCB
- PCB + CIC
- NROM: two 39SF040s
- CNROM: one 74HC161 and two 39SF040s
- AxROM: one 74HC161, one 74HC02, one 39SF040, and one 6264 SRAM
- UxROM: one 74HC161, one 74HC32, one 39SF040, and one 6264 SRAM
- Test PCB: one 74HC161, one 74HC32, one 74HC02, and two 32-pin DIP sockets
Note that the sockets for the test board will make it so that the PCB does not fit inside a plastic shell! You will need to modify a cartridge shell to allow you to place it into an NES, or for front-loader NES consoles you may be able to fit the board into the console by itself.

The first time you start your game up, if it does not immediately boot up, you should press the reset button 5 to 10 times. The CIC needs to be reset a few times in order to obtain the correct region.

This board has an ENIG finish with gold fingers and a chamfered edge - high quality, holds up very well over time when taking the game in and out of the console.

Message or email me for larger quantity inquiries, or for custom orders. And please, check out my website listed above for extremely detailed instructions on how to construct a game of your own, and if you have any questions, contact me!

Note: Some pictures of the board in the listing shows version 2.2 - the newest revision and the one you will receive is version 2.4, which has some minor improvements over the previous revisions.

I couldn't get the NES to power on until I realized I didn't need to bridge the 2 plates on all the capacitors (eyeroll at myself for stupidity). The only other issue I had was I couldn't get the NES to even power on with a CIC from Second Gen, so I replaced it with a regular NES CIC and it worked great...of course that could have been the bridged plates, eyeroll again. Yeah, great board, quite a time saver!

It plays NROM and CNROM games well, AOROMs are a bit picky, but Nick was very nice in help troubleshooting. Watch out for Ironsword. It is a head-scratcher.
