In France, at breakfast, everyone drinks from their own coffee bowl, which takes the place of a cup or mug. Bowls are preferred, because it is easier to dip your croissant or your tartine (buttered bread) into a bowl. Just as an American has a favorite breakfast cup or mug, the French person has a favorite bowl. In cafés, the french serve coffee in cups and saucers--the bowl is for use at home. This explains why most foreigners don't know about this custom; it's private and experienced only in a French home. Here's the joy of the coffee bowl....you can't do anything else while you drink from it! Goodbye multi-tasking. It makes the weekend coffee ritual intentional and almost meditative. The bowl warms your hands and spirit; this is truly joie de vivre!

If coffee is not your religion, this small bowl will hold about 1 2/3 cups (5400 ml) of cereal, soup, or ice cream. This french coffee bowl was made on the potter's wheel, hand carved on its foot, and glazed in teal green.

Dimensions: approximately 3.5" (9 cm) tall X 4" (10 cm) wide at rim.
