I had a really good time making these.

The history of Faerie Badges: A friend reorganized her office, creating space to write her first novel. I wished she could receive a token of her achievement. I thought of Girl Scout badges; my understanding is that each one is earned by mastering a skill set or task represented by that particular badge.

Voila, the Faerie badge was born! I conceived of it as different from a Girl Scout patch: You yourself can choose the reason to reward yourself with a Faerie Badge. And your accomplishment can be big or small. Examples: did you start a scary project, book a dentist appointment, take out the trash, create a cake recipe, enter an art show, buy your first paint brushes, refrain from nagging your mate for a whole minute, let yourself nap, listen to a friend's problems, finish a big project, avoid killing an in-law? Honor yourself with a Faerie badge.

Another difference is that there are endless styles of using Faerie badges. Examples:

1) The same Faerie patch can honor as many feats as you want. Just place it on your altar or a prominent place when you want to recognize yourself for an accomplishment.

2) When facing a big challenge, give yourself a new patch every day to honor any action you took toward overcoming the block.

3) Gift a patch to each member of your family, circle, committee, class, or the like to commemorate a group accomplishment.

4) Stitch patch(es) to your ritual robe, as a talisman of self-affirming love that adds mojo to your rituals.

5) Sew a Faerie badge(s) on a garment you always wear (eg purse or jacket), to bring self-esteem into all your days.

MORE differences: Girl Scout patches are mass-produced, machine-made. Each Faerie Patch is an original one-of-a-kind design, guided by a Divinity who has a touch of whimsy, and hand-painted free-hand on unfinished rectangles of gorgeous upcycled, probably vintage cotton or linen.

Sew them on as is, maybe with brightly-colored thread: Shabby chic meets childlike wonder.

This listing is for the set of five badges shown in the top pics. The bottom pic is of all the badges I made, to show how different each one is.

I probably won't make more. I made 21. (One is not shown, it was an offering to some faeries to honor THEIR achievements!) My intention is to sell the 20 in 4 sets, 5 badges each.

An empowering fun gift. Special stocking stuffers. Washable.
