Antique Saké Flask, Made in Japan

This shabby chic sake flask is from the 20's, 30's or 40's. Hand-crafted in Japan, it's made from a pewter-like alloy and is beautifully designed with a traditional ring and cherry blossom motif. The bottom bears an artisan's mark. I purchased it in a mom and pop antique shop in Kyoto many years ago.

Overall the metal is in good condition but it does have the patina you'd expect from an article of this age. The spout is wrapped with thin leather that served both decorative and practical purposes (made it much easier to hold, especially if someone heated the container to serve the sake hot).

Condition-wise the leather has become somewhat brittle and needs to be handled with care. Naturally you needn't use it for drinking sake; it would make a beautiful vase or decorative object too.

Height: about 5 1/4 inches ((13.5 cm).
Maximum diameter: about 2 1/2 inches (6 cm).
Weight: about 9 oz. (250 grams)

This item will be shipped via Japan's expedited mail service (EMS) at no charge to US buyers (and those from a few other destinations, as well).
