This gorgeous necklace in Native tribal pattern and colors, is made of 5mm black and yellow Coco shell beads and tubular apple coral beads.

Coral is the skeletal material of small polyp animals that live in colonies in the sea. Coral reefs are considered endangered ecosystems. As a result, Earth-conscious jewelers have turned to apple coral, a so far non-endangered species of coral. Coral is said to protect children and is given to them as a gift in many countries, and it is used for its many healing properties in difficulties of the lungs, digestion, blood and heart. It is also said to help restore harmony, works to resolve depression and lethargy, and to cure madness, give wisdom, and build a strong emotional foundation.

Coco Shell beads are made from the dark layer of the endocarp of the coconut, which is the hard material adhering to the white "coconut meat" when it is removed from the shell. Pieces of the woody endocarp are polished and painstakingly made into beads, earrings and necklaces. The yellow beads are made from bleached coco shell, dyed by soaking them for days in a strong concoction of Scottish bog myrtle.

This beautiful necklace is 15” (38cm) long, strung on tough sinew, and the clasp is made from silvered hypoallergenic surgical steel.
