This bear skull is an exact scaled replica of the enormous Cave Bear skull - an ancestor of the present-day Grizzly. The skull I used for reference was kindly loaned to me by a fossil collector in British Columbia's interior, where this animal once made its home. Every detail is replicated here, from the ridges on its molar teeth to the bone structures at the base of the skull where it once attached to the spinal cord. It hangs perfectly from a carefully considered hole carved into the top of the skull, and it does so with dramatic effect. A true Lost Apostle original.

A veritable behemoth of an animal, before its extinction around 30,000 years ago this huge creature ruled the roost. Largely, if not solely, vegetarian (a nutritional fact contributing to its eventual demise), the granddaddy of all bears towered over 10 feet tall and weighed in at a ton. That's one big bear.

The Cave Bear skull measures 1 1/4" from the back of the skull to the tip of its jaw, and just over 3/4" across its huge eye orbits. Completely hand carved, the skull is cast in the finest jewelers' bronze, hand finished and hand polished. I then age the skull to give it a great antique look and feel, which also brings out all the details on this great piece. Finally the skull is protected against tarnishing - no need to worry about re-polishing this beast. Ever.

I've included a photo of the underside of the skull to show the detailing in the teeth, jaw bones and the base of the skull. The Cave Bear may be long gone, but with details like this, it sure isn't forgotten.

I've hung this skull on approximately 1 meter of the finest Spanish brown leather, which compliments the warm luster of the bronze perfectly. Also included is a Lost Apostle bronze clasp, which will allow you to adjust the necklace to any length you like (and looks rather special too).

In Native American mythology, the Bear represents the power of introspection - the search for the sweetness of truth. In hibernation, so lies inner-vison - the death of the illusion of physical reality and the awareness of the expansiveness of eternity beyond. What's more, in the Indian Hindu religion the cave itself symbolizes the cave of Brahma - which in turn is represented in human anatomy as the pineal gland in the center of the brain. The very same pineal gland that is more commonly referred to as The Third Eye.
