My father fought his way through Europe during WWII, starting on Omaha Beach on D-Day and ending in Occupied Germany after the war. I have a little snapshot of him surrounded by German children that I keep on my art table. He said many of them were orphans. He sent it home to his parents and on the back he wrote "Aren't they cute? Not much different than American kids."

I got the inspiration for this little painting from that snapshot. The painting is built up with vintage paper under the acrylic paint and the lines show through the paint. It's intentionally grainy and rugged and a little rough, like the lives of so many children, past and present.

I used a little artist canvas which measures 5" x 4" x 1.5" (12.5 cm x 10 cm x 3.9 cm). I glazed it with many thin layers for protection. I signed it on the back.

No need for framing; it can be hung as is or stand on a desk or shelf.
