Please meet baby hare Erriapus.

A textile ornament of a baby hare to display fondly in your home.

One day all the babies got such a fright when a new baby came by to play with them, out of the blue. She played roughly with lots of scratching and biting and had no sign of a tail, and with rather a strong odour to her russet red fur. When the mamas asked her where her mother was Erriapus said that she was back at home, ofcourse, in the den, with her brand new brothers and sisters. Mama had asked her to leave, along with her own age brothers and sisters, and they were now making their way in the world. It was rather a scary place and she had gotten separated from them and now she was awfully hungry and hadn’t had a meal since yesterday. What on earth have you been eating? the mamas asked, surely there is plenty of grass and herbs around to fill even the biggest of stomachs. Grass and herbs? blurted Erriapus, I’m used to beetles and honey and berries and worms!
Well, that confirmed their thoughts that she had a fox mama. One of the mothers took the hungry, tailless little hare under her wing and showed her the lush patch of clover. She started to pluck the juiciest blooms and in no time at all Erriapus was munching away, albeit constructively, on a clover flower. And surprisingly she enjoyed it! Then off they went to the stream to give Erriapus a wash down because if she didn’t change her scent she would have no friends for sure. She enjoyed being scrubbed by her new mama though she wasn’t keen on all the behind the ear cleaning. Then after that new mama showed her a nice warm comfy bed back at the nest and within five minutes Erriapus was sound asleep, still operating on fox-den time. New mama pulled up a blanket of sheeps wool strands to keep her warm, especially near her tail stump, that was the area that got chilled easily. Tomorrow she would show her what green things to eat and what not to touch. It had been a long day for the little baby!

Erriapus is looking forward to a warm cosy spot on your bookshelf. She hopes you have some sheeps wool strands for her as she rather likes the extra warmth around her tailless area. And she’d like the window open a little please so that she can meet up with new mama for more lessons about being a hare. She never really did like worms or beetles that much so she’s glad she doesn’t have to eat them anymore. You don’t eat them either do you? And every now and again she’d like a bath if you don’t mind, and you can scrub her back but let’s not worry about behind the ears okay?

Erriapus has been made with great care and she has safety eyes. She has been machine and hand sewn by me and will have many ‘unique’ (imperfect, handmade) bits especially the extra stitching under her ear. Better she have an ear on instead of off, what with already being tailless and all. However, she is not recommended for very young children and is not a toy.

She is made of a thrifted wool material that's a lovely russet red in colour, and has a polyfill stuffing, along with a full stomach of dandelion leaves (only joking!).

She stands approx 17.5cm high and 12cm wide (approx 7” x 5”).

Erriapus is excited about her journey to her forever home!
She also wants you to know that baby hares are called leverets and comes with a small tag telling her story.
