British Royalty George V and Queen Mary Souvenir Handkerchief 1935

A rare souvenir handkerchief commemorating 25 years of the reign of George V and Queen Mary.

Unused from original stock, this beautiful handkerchief is truly a piece of history. Portraits of the King and Queen Mary in little cartouches occupy one corner under a scroll with the dates 1910 to 1925. Delicately drawn floral motifs border the hanky, illustrating the shamrock for Ireland, the Scottish thistle and the English red rose.

George V was the grandson of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and first cousin to Tsar Nicholas of Russia and Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. He was the first monarch of the House of Windsor.
Queen Mary was born Princess Victoria Mary of Teck. They were a devoted couple and had five sons and one daughter.

The King was to die in the following year - 1936 when he was succeeded by Edward VIII. His abdication quickly followed and we all know the rest from the big screen! George VI was crowned in his place in 1937.

In very good condition.

The item measures10" square and comes suitably patriotically wrapped in Union Jack tissue paper within a handmade Union Jack envelope. An ideal gift for the anglophile, royalist or collector!
