This is a vintage French petticoat, chemise, nightdress or slip dress in a lovely strong peach color. It has a lovely simple hand done jours / drawn thread work design across the top of the bodice with gorgeous circular flower embroidery motifs. It was probably made in the 1920s or 30s and could be worn as a lovely simple summer dress.

Condition: The gathered section at the back has been mended at some point in its life and this old repair is coming undone again (see photo 5). A couple of stitches (like the old repair shown) would easily fix this. It also has some rust marks and some slight sunlight fading down the seams but no other holes, rips or tears. The first photo is closest to the actual color - it is an orangy peach color.

Dimensions: It measures 17 inches across the top of the bodice when measured flat (34 inches in total – 86.5cm). The bodice measures 10 inches (25cm) from the top to the waist gathering. It is 18.5 inches across the gathered section (total of 37 inches – 94cm). Length is 35.5 inches (90cm) when measured down the side seam,. Straps are 13.5 inches (34 cm) long x 0.4 inches wide (1cm). The embroidered circles are 1 inch in diameter (2.5cm).

Frequently asked questions about Histoires

I am open to a layaway plan for more expensive items with a combined value of over $100 (including shipping). This way you can split your payments over a period of time between 1 and 3 months. We will agree the payments at the beginning and then your first payment reserves your item.

Please note that after you begin your payments I am unable to refund you or cancel the transaction as the item is reserved for you and unavailable for sale to anyone else. The item will stay on reserve until you finish your final payment.
I will consider offers on single or multiple purchases on any of my items. It's always worth asking me!

Don't forget that combining shipping on multiple purchases delivered to the same address can give significant savings.
The quickest and most reliable shipping I offer is using the Colissimo service. Shipping times with Colissimo are 5 - 8 working days from dispatch to delivery. If you want to add this service to your order please purchase the Colissimo upgrade.

If you want a quotation for a quicker service please contact me before your purchase as these services are very expensive.

I will combine shipping on multiple purchases wherever possible.

I can combine shipping with items in my vintage sewing supplies shop, Couturesse.

Please contact me if you want to purchase from both shops and I will set up a custom listing.

If you want an exact price for shipping on your order please contact me before you buy so that I can set up a custom listing for all the items you want with the correct shipping charge.

Please note that it is not always possible to combine shipping on large / heavy / fragile items as the economical La Poste service has an upper limit of 2kg. It may actually be cheaper to send 2 or more separate parcels if the items are very heavy.
