Just look at the honey and cream coloring of this wooden vase. Wouldn't it look fantastic displayed in your home or office?

Because this vase has a hollowed out interior, it can hold a large arrangement of silk or dried flowers.

It's made from a large Velvet Mesquite tree's storm damaged limb. This tree is native to southern Arizona and provides a lot of food and shelter to the native birds and wildlife. In the spring I enjoy watching the Gambil's Quail eat pollen from its flowers.

Mesquite has a dark to light brown heartwood surrounded by the cream colored sapwood. The sapwood resides just under the bark.

This vase shows off a wide band of the cream sapwood interrupted by an area where the turning came closer to the bark. I liked it's look so much, I didn't remove any more wood from this area of the vase. The bark inclusion looks like it is holding together two ends of a sapwood ring.

The beauty of the darker heartwood shows up where I turned deeper into the branch to create the foot and rim.

I finished the outside with several coats of a clear gloss lacquer and left the inside natural. Made to be displayed on its own merits or for dried or silk arrangements only. Do not immerse in water or put water inside. To clean, simply wipe with a damp cloth and immediately buff dry.

The branch and dried arraingement are not included with this sale, but the dried items may be purchased from my friend's etsy store:
