"Facade " belongs to a series of paintings which depict architectural motifs. As an artist I am especially fascinated by old worn out facades and walls, everything that has to tell a story.
"Facade" is a vignette of an old water tower that does not exist any more.

It all started with the camera which is my number one working tool at the moment, in order to keep close contact to the real object that I am painting. I do not merely copy the photo, although I try to keep as close as possible to the real thing but I try to “inhale” something vivid into the painting, some narrative element.

My thoughts are moving around the subject, thinking about what could have happened in this building, my mind is making up stories and in the end the whole subject is filled with mysteries. Of course I know the real story of this building and its former purpose and I am well aware of the non-fictitious drop dead plain facts. It’s an annoying object for the people living in this residential area and should have been demolished by the city a long time ago as it was promised. It was never high enough to really fulfill its original purpose of a water tower because it could not build up enough pressure for the water.

Built in 1931 it was working for only 7 years. For many years it was left empty, then used for some underprivileged families, which again created some tensions between the latter and the residents living in this area before, since 1996 it was empty again and left to decay and rotting. The plaster was falling off the wall, rain and frost caused cracks in the walls and the whole thing was slowly becoming dangerous for the neighbourhood. There was a group of people trying to save the tower but I thought that this did not really make any sense.

Yet for me the tower has become an unusual painting motif no matter what the reality was. Therefore my fantasies and inspiration were going into completely different directions.

In order to make my art work available for everyone I decided to get the originals made as fine art prints on real 420 g/m cotton canvas, finished with a matte varnish. At the moment I am offering here various sizes - please see below. Smaller and larger ones can be made available. Each print will be made on demand only so please allow a processing time of 3-5 working days. If you need a different size I will enter a custom order for you.

I recommend to frame these prints in an additional frame with a broad border for even a better look (as in the example) and you will truly have a piece of fine art.

Other sizes can be done of course and the prints will be shipped rolled. If you wish the print to be mounted on stretcher frame there will be much higher shipping fees unfortunately. Please ask before you enter the order.
