Very old Gilbert's "Big Boy" toy tool chest from the 1930s or 40s.

The original tools are not included, but I am including a handful of small gadgets and pieces from what I think may be a vintage erector set, as well as some other random items that a vintage boy apparently collected and stored in this box -- all items were found inside the box.

The paint has a lovely vintage patina but is still a most charming bright apple red. There are some scratches and minor rusting, but I think this adds to the appeal. Most of the interior and exterior stickers are still intact, displaying a vintage boy on the outside working in a tool shed, and two vintage boys on the inside working together on a project. I think its flaws add to its charms, and it would be a great box for a little boy for storing his sundry snakes and snails and puppy dog tails, or for a grown up for storing tools and gadgets.

Gilbert made many of these boxes throughout the early mid-century in varying designs, and with varying contents (erector sets, tool sets, science kits). I believe this is model #1. The box still locks with two latches and the handle is sturdy and in good shape. The box measures 16"long, 8"wide and 2.75" deep.

Perfect for your favorite tinkerer or vintage lover, or simply for display, this red box would make a perfect Christmas present, at only $15, $6 shipping.
