THIS IS A 1942 MERCURY DIME, It is silver with the relief hand cut out only leaving the original design. The obverse figure is a depiction of the mythological goddess Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of liberty and freedom, with its wings intended to symbolize freedom of thought. Designed by noted sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, the Winged Liberty Head dime is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful U.S. coin designs ever produced. Weinman won a 1915 competition against two other artists for the design job, and is thought to have modeled his version of Liberty on Elsie Kachel Stevens, wife of noted poet Wallace Stevens This comes with an inexpensive 18"(you can request a 24") chain because I would rather you pay for the work on the coin. A gift box comes with it. If a certain date is needed please covo me for price and availability(some are very expensive).
