Peter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in April of 2007. He went through more than 3 years of treatment during after his was first diagnosed, enduring many complications and horrible side effects of aggressive chemotherapy. Within a few months of ending treatment, Peter’s mum recognized the signs of the disease returning. Her fears were confirmed — Peter had relapsed.

Because of his Down Syndrome, Peter is particularly sensitive to chemotherapy. Side effects are more severe and dangerous, which limits treatment options. Facing a treacherous road, Peter’s family faced the relapse protocol head on, and he survived the first year of relapse treatment. There has been no break for Peter or his family, facing week after week in the hospital and yet his smiles and infectious love of life persist. The Piries never lost hope.

In January 2013, still undergoing intense treatment for the first relapse, the cancer returned again. Though he continues a chemotherapy regimen to slow the progression of his cancer, there is no cure for Peter. His only hope is a clinical trial in the United States called CART 19 at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. As a resident of New Zealand, the Piries must raise the money ($300,000 US) for Peter’s participation in the trial on their own.
So you see, it's going to take more than a village see Pete cured and raised. It's going to take a planet and that is why I've turned my shop in to a fundraiser for this precious child.

Best regards,
Nicki
