This is a one-of-a-kind gelatin monoprint using water-based printing inks (akua) on Japanese rice paper.

The vine is a pressed passion vine from my habitat garden.
I grow it for the Gulf Fritilary butterfly. It blooms but I've never been able to get it to fruit ever though it is constantly pollinated!

Measures 9"h x 6 3/4"w.

The process is called gelatin monotyping. I cooked up a batch of plain gelatin (convoy me if you want the recipe and directions). Once the slab sets you ink it up like any other printing plate and you can take paint away or block it (in this case a pressed leaf for the botanical delight.
