Woodhunter no 2 found this Bristlecone Pine root lying on the ground this fall. Picking it up woodhunter no2 asked if it could be used for anything. It was a little deteriorated on the end but I thought the mid section would be a nice lamp. Well it turned out to be excellent. The swirls of the grain are beautiful and severals colors came out of the wood as we sanded out the gray.
The finish is 3 coats sprayed satin lacquer.
Bristlecone Pine is the oldest known living organism. Methuselah,in California, is almost 5000 years old. Bristlecone Pine is very tenacious and hardy, continuing to grow under severe conditions at high elevations. We love looking for dead specimens while admiring the ones still alive.

Dimensions
This lamp is 11 3/8ths inches from the base to the top of the wood. From the base to the top of the 9 inch harp it is 21 1/2 inches tall. Antique brass, new UL approved lamp kit with 3 way switch. Shade is not included.

Photos
First 4 photos are different views of the lamp. The last photo is of a live Bristlecone Pine high in the Rockies of Colorado with the only bark left supplying nourishment is curling around and up the tree.
