These letter openers have been big sellers. They're not only elegant, distinctive and unique, they're also functional and durable; the perfect gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, graduation, confirmation, etc. Several of my customers take them along on trips to give as hostess gifts (airline security apparently lets them through).

Each blade is laminated between two pieces that make up the handle (see photo). The letter opener is approximately 9 1/2" long and has been sanded to a satiny-smooth surface (400 grit), and finished with 2 coats of gloss lacquer and buffed with hard wax.

All of the woods in these openers are hardwoods. Bolivian rosewood has a rich, light brown color with subtle dark highlights. East Indian rosewood is much darker than the Bolivian rosewood, with even darker and more subtle highlights. Maple, which is usually off-white, features distinctive wavy or straight grain patterns. Yellowheart is, well, a beautiful bright yellow, with highlights that resemble flecks of gold. Purpleheart is an especially dense hardwood, once used in the construction of Spanish galleons, with a color that varies from bright to brownish purple. All of these hardwoods finish with a glassy smooth, glossy surface, which feels very good in the hand.

Any of these openers will add elegance to a desk at home or in the office. Give them as gifts, buy one for yourself, or both. The blade will hold its edge for a long time (I've used one to open daily mail for several years and haven't had to sharpen it yet!). After being asked by a customer, I determined that the handles or the blades of my openers can be engraved. I can't do the engraving myself, but there are engravers in most cities.

If the blade gets chipped or becomes too dull to suit you, send it back to me postage-paid (email me for an address). I'll resharpen and refinish it, and return it to you AT NO ADDITIONAL COST.
