Minimalist mammoth engraving, river stone rock art. Who wouldn't want a baby elephant, and then dream about it growing up to be a mammoth?

Get your mammoth on this permanently engraved, naturally smoothed stone from the mysterious Wapona Kira Archaeological site. You can read more about the site and the origin of Brijoli stones in our listing for the original Brijoli design:

The Brijoli, an ancient people, planted new stone art in the archaeological pits each night while the scientists who studied them slept, for the scientists to"discover" the next day. At first, the Brijoli only left stones decorated with their own traditional designs. Then, one night, the Brijoli found an archaeology book that one of the scientists had left about. They discovered pictures in the book of petroglyphs, cave paintings, and other rock art from around the world. From then on, the playful Brijoli left stones decorated with designs representative of the four corners of the Earth.

This particular smooth, medium-dark gray stone has a Brijoli's minimalist interpretation of a prehistoric mammoth. Inspired by a photo of European cave art from the archaeologist's book, the Brijoli scored and grooved a stylized image of a mammoth into this stone's surface to create this symbol of size, strength, and power.

A mammoth is any species of the extinct genus Mammuthus. These proboscideans were close relatives of modern elephants. They were often equipped with long curved tusks and, in northern species, a covering of long hair. Although there were pygmy mammoths that were only about half the size of modern elephants, the noun "mammoth" has also become an adjective, meaning "large" or "massive" because the largest males of some mammoth species could weigh over 12 tons and stand close to 20 feet high at the shoulder. The mammoth was considered to be a very powerful totem animal.

No paints or pigments are used to create the indelible, permanent image.

This stone was chosen for its color, smooth texture, shape and size. This particular stone is a comfortable size, sits nicely in the palm of your hand, and feels wonderful against your skin. Perfect to display in a man cave, on your desk (it would make a fascinating paperweight), table, window sill or shelf. And dream BIG!
