This beautiful sterling and turquoise pendant was made by a Tuareg artisan in North Africa. It is quite interesting as all four "sides" are moveable from the central axle. The sterling work is masterfully pecked with geometric designs, not stamped. There is even a outline of pecked design around the oval on the reverse side. When I asked about the unusual shape I was told that it is "the lady". Yes, the oval cabochon is her face and the silver work is her elaborate hairdo! There are faint "tracks" on the back which is the signature of the artist. The cabochon is a gorgeous cab of turquoise which was brought to the artisans as there are very few naturally occurring gemstones available. 2 7/8" tall by 2 3/8" wide. weighs 27.7 grams. The bail opening is about 3/16" in diameter. Stunning.
