For those who have not used raw minerals in their work: you will need to be sure not to exert to much pressure while working. You can also trim the piece by nipping with needle nose pliers.
Conichalcite normally is too fragile to work with but in this case the conichalcite is covered with a protective layer of crystalline calcite. Particular care must be taken not to exert too much pressure on the specimen. Also if you are going to use this for jewelry you will have to deal with the red matrix (mother rock) as it will stain clothing. The best method to stabilize the matrix is to apply spray on grout sealer available cheaply at home improvement stores.
