I ♥ this Yves Saint Laurent heart necklace.

This 1980s necklace features the signature motif of Yves Saint Laurent--the heart. The necklace has seven (Lucky 7) Gripoix glass cabochons, three red and four pinky purple ones. The cabochons are in the center of the Yves Saint Laurent signed 'smooth' hearts. The unsigned hearts have a 'hammered' appearance to them.

Personally, Yves Saint Laurent is one of my favorite designers. He gave women the trapeze dress, the Mondrian dress and le smoking suit. His first foray in fashion was when his mother took him to Paris for a meeting she arranged with Vogue Paris editor Michel de Brunhoff. Brunhoff later introduced Laurent to Christian Dior, where Laurent would not only work, but when Dior passed away in 1957, Laurent took over as chief designer. (It was Yves Saint Laurent's first collection for Dior that gave the world the trapeze dress.)

Yves Saint Laurent launched his own couture house in 1961 with the backing of Pierre Bergé. He led the fashion pack by being the first to open Ready-To-Wear (The Rive Gauche) boutiques in 1966. Menswear was added in 1974. His muses included Loulou de la Falaise and Catherine Deneuve. Laurent retired in 2002. He passed away in 2008.

History/Backstory: I purchased this necklace while in Virginia from another vintage/antiques dealer.

Condition: Very Good. The goldtone hearts do show some light signs of wear, but nothing extreme. There is a slight rubbing off of the black on the Yves Saint Laurent in some places. The 'Yves Saint Laurent' is very much visible, readable and there. It's engraved. It's the black marking on the engraving in some places has rubbed away. You can see in picture 3 with the red cabochon heart. All gripoix glass cabochons are in excellent shape. Firmly in place. No dents or scratches.

Necklace has a toggle clasp.

The toggle is marked 'Made in France' and P6. I think the P6 refers to Printemps (Spring) and Collection 6. I have done my best in trying to research this and haven't found a conclusive answer yet. Waiting to hear back from YSL.

Measurements: The necklace measures 19 1/2".

Packaging: The necklace will be carefully packaged and shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Please convo if you prefer a different shipment method. I love to combine shipping.
