This antique brass oil lamp appears to be hand forged and has a unique design. The highly detailed lid features a Roman-looking face with an open mouth, allowing smoke to escape when the lamp or incense is lit. The wide handle of the piece bears another head depicted in relief, which resembles a horned satyr. The nozzle of the lamp has a small circular aperture to hold the lamp’s wick, allowing one end of the wick to to be immersed in the pool of oil while the other is lit.

The oil lamp measures approximately 5” from end to end, and is just over 2” tall. The bowl of the lamp itself is 2” wide and about 1” deep at its deepest point. The hollowed bowl of the lamp gives way to a stepped round pedestal, which is about 2” in diameter. The piece is in good vintage condition showing signs of age, with a slight dent in the base. The inside of the lid shows residue/creosote resulting from many years of prior use, while the outside has a rubbed patina.

The oil lamp could be easily used as an incense burner, or would make a great conversation piece on display in your home.
