Unusual large antique Victorian era gold heart locket, no chain. This gorgeous treasure features a detailed repousse style cupid, wings spread, bow and arrow in hand. A lovely scrolling feathery design surrounds the middle of his body. The locket opens on the left with the help of two arched notches (perfect for fingernails to open). It reveals two heart-shaped spaces for images inside. There is a faded cornflower blue cloth resting inside with both photo rings present (no plastic coverings). It closes with a nice click. The back of the locket is beautifully monogrammed with the name "Ethel." The top has a loop with an open-ended jump ring still attached. Overall this piece is in lovely condition for its age. There is a bit of slight wear and tarnish to the outside, very minimal and mostly around the edges of the cupid and the seam of the locket. There is a tiny dot-sized indentation and scuff just to the left of the cupid's arm and scroll (see 1st photo). The inside of the locket has the most wear with some darkened tarnish and discoloration, as well as a fairly deep notch on the bottom left side, which measures about 2mm long (see 3rd photo). The cloth is stained and discolored. The metal appears to be gold filled given its coloring and age, but I could not locate any markings to confirm and the piece is untested. The pinkish coloring you can see in the 1st and 2nd photos is only a reflection. Measures approximately 35mm x 30mm including the loop and is fairly lightweight given its size. This is a one of a kind piece here at Treasure Booth :)
