Title: What Goes Up

Size: 12 " H X 4" W
(Including the base at its widest and tallest points)

This mid century modern inspired sculpture was hand cut from redwood. It is then torched to bring out the grain of the wood, turning the wood color to a rich shade of brown. There are no stains used, just the natural wood and fire. We finish the sculptures by sanding and brushing off the loose soot but we choose not to add any type of finish, we like the firewood smell and the mat finish that comes naturally with this process. The burning causes some cracking as moisture is forced out of the wood, this is not considered a flaw in the work but an addition to the natural and aged feel of the piece.

We use templates to cut identical shapes out of the wood but each sculpture will be unique because of the different wood grain striping. The one you receive may not look identical to the photos.

If this listing is active this means we have one in stock and ready to ship. Please check our other listings to see the rest of the sculptures we currently have in stock.

This method of working with redwood was made popular by a company called Witco, they are most famous for the amazing tiki statues and furniture they produced in the 60's and 70's.

A great addition to your mid century modern or contemporary decor.
