This beautiful and quaint textile piece is from the state of Illinois done in the mid 1800's and the family who sold it to me said it was done by their great great grandmother right after Abraham Lincoln died in remembrance of him. Her name was Abigail Withers.

The words" Only A Breath Of Violets" is done on Muslin with beautiful violets surrounding the words. Placed in an Oval wooden Frame with original glass. The frame is done in 4 interlocking pieces and is beautiful.

Illinois schoolchildren voted for a State Flower and chose the Violet. as it was among the few flowers that Lincoln ever appreciated.
The frame measures 17" by 14" wide. The muslin fabric has darkened age spots near the edge. See photos. It is in good condition for it's 150 years of age.

The Longacre Flea is happy to be an ETSY Seller and to bring you unique vintage and hard to find antiques from the past that help you smile today. My favorite eras are definitely Victorian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco but I also have a love for mid century and funky vintage.
