54" x 54" wool challis paisley with small black center. There is a 5" rip on the "right bottom" edge that you can see in the first/main photograph. This could be mended. There are a couple pea size holes that are hard to find. Also there are two hole areas that are much smaller than a a quarter as you can see by the two photos. Hard time find the small holes, they are from age (if you were almost 200 years old, you would have some defects as well). You could wear it, but use respect for something this old, not like our regular modern clothing. Price reflects the defects.

Civil war era. Feels like someone washed the wool shawl. According to the book "The Paisley Pattern" by R. Drew, 1987, the production of the printed shawls could have been used for summer months or for those working class who could not afford the more expensive shawls. The shawl is 150 years of age. A CDV is shown with a women during the CW era is wearing a paisley shawl. The paisley design is large and has a very small black center which is indicative of the 1850s and 1860s. It was the height of fashion at that time.
