A cherub graces the handle top of this sterling silver Manchester, Vermont vintage souvenir demitasse spoon.

The handle of this Manchester, Vermont spoon is very ornate. A cherub dances among flowers and scrolls at the top. The design on the handle continues with more scrolls and a beaded design ending with a small flower where the bowl of the spoon begins. The entire handle design is in raised relief.

The bowl of the spoon has a wonderful etched design of a church surrounded by trees. "Manchester VT" is etched in the skyline. After comparing the picture of this church to many on-line, I believe this church may possibly be the Manchester Congregational Church.

The back of the handle holds more of the scrollwork and beadwork that is on the front of the handle.

At the top of the bowl on the back it is marked "Sterling". It has the markings of the lion passant (sterling); the anchor mark (Birmingham, England) and another mark that I cannot decipher.

The spoon measures 4 3/8” (11.1 cm) long.

It is in very good condition though it does have surface scratches that one expects of vintage sterling silver.

As with most of the sterling pieces I sell I clean & polish them enough to show the detail. There is still patina on this piece. If you like your sterling silver very shiny, you will want to polish this piece more when you receive it.

This spoon is from my grand-aunt’s collection. She visited Manchester, Vermont annually ever since I can remember & longer. She and my grandmother every October would take their annual antiquing and foliage trip to New England. Grandma passed on when I was 15 and these trips occurred every one of those 15 years (I used to get a painted pumpkin!) and began before I was born. During which of these trips this spoon was purchased, I don't know but it is safe to say that the spoon is at least 35 years of age - though I would guess older.

A wonderful, beautiful, and very quaint piece - this spoon would be a wonderful addition to any spoon collection. It's also a very thoughtful gift for someone who has fond memories of this lovely town.

Thanks for stopping in! Have a wonderful day!
