A personal rice bowl to cradle in your hand while eating with chopsticks. Hand turned with wild cherry taken from the woods around my home. I lathed into the end grain, a tricky procedure, so you can see the concentric growth rings radiating out from the center inside the bowl. It is very thin and light and has a rich red tone.

The bowl is 4.5" in diameter and 2.75" tall with 1/16’’ walls. It is hand finished through multiple sandpaper grits and three buffing stages. The final finish is with food safe walnut oil and a buffed carnuba wax polish. Carnuba is a very hard natural wax used on M&Ms (so "they melt in your mouth - not in your hand"...). Signed with initials and dated on bottom.

Follow these instructions and you can enjoy the look and feel for years, and, I hope, pass it on as an heirloom. Care is easy. If necessary, wash lightly with a soapy sponge and towel dry. Do not soak or scrub and never ever put in a dishwasher. If the surface loses some luster or looks dry, apply mineral oil or, better yet, walnut oil with a clean paper towel; both are food safe. You can do this as often as you like, ideally immediately after each washing, to keep all of your wooden-ware in great shape.
