This illustrated zine compiles—and tries out!—recipes left on tombstones around the world. These recipes, carved and etched on granite gravestones, dictate—sometimes hazily—the instructions for delicious fare such as cookies, cobblers, and bread. Scouring cemeteries and the internet, we collected and attempted seven of these kitchen formulas, found in burial grounds from Alaska to Israel.
This zine is printed in color and measures 5.5" x 8.5" and has a staple binding. It includes the recipes as well as photographs of our attempts to make each recipe as a tribute to the chefs who loved these sweet treats so much they literally took them to their graves. The 20-page zine also includes a selection of food-themed epitaphs as well as some recipes we would consider for our own final resting places.
'Cooking with the Dead' is a collaboration between Bronwyn Hazelwood, Allison C. Meier, and Claire Voon.
The zine was covered in 2022 by the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/30/dining/gravestone-recipes.html

Such a great zine and an original idea! I have both zines of theirs so far. I didn’t know that people put recipes on their tombstones! This is my second zine from this shop and I love them. Please make more!!!
This zine is excellent! It’s so much better than I had thought it would be. I gave this as a gift and the recipient adores it! Great quality, fast shipping even with the holidays. Will definitely order from this shop again!!
Absolutely love it, so unique an addition to my spooky cookbook collection! Thank you very much!!
What a nice little cookbook! The recipes look yummy and the book is well made and colorful. Just the fact that you can find recipes on grave stones is proof that you can get it, over their dead body!! Thank you!
