Carved wooden folk art cup from Yugoslavia. These intricately carved wooden cups were made by hand from a single piece of hardwood. They were a traditional Yugoslavian handicraft and are called either wedding cups or shepherd's cups. This one has a circular geometric design on both sides. The handle has a simpler round design and a leaf shaped cut out. In the 1950's and 1960's Yugoslavians started to carve and sell these cups for tourists and that is the way many of them found their way to the United States. This cup is almost 4 inches tall at the handle, 6 inches long and 2.25 inches wide. It is in good vintage condition with no cracks or chips. There is some finish lost on the bottom where it is marked "YUGOSLAVIA." I have other shepherds cup for sale in my shop.
