Travels to Bolivia and La Paz in the 90's unearthed these beautiful jackets upcycled from vintage 'mantas' - little blankets that Bolivian indigenous wear over their shoulders for warmth or alternately carry all the daily shopping/babies etc. I think the tailor was a foreigner (French or Italian) who had opened a little shop in downtown LaPaz and created beautiful jackets and coats from these used blankets. This is one of two I bought and unearthed recently in storage.
It is marked ' M ' but in measurements this means:
Width: 21" (42")
Length: 23" Sleeve length: 22"
Finished with the fine hand-made cording that the blankets are usually are finished with.Lined with a simple acetate and has a small 'secret' pocket inside on the left side.
The vintage textile that the jacket is constructed from probably about 30-40 years old - hand woven on a back-strap loom and most likely is natural dyed hand spun-alpaca - which is mentioned in the label.
Very chic short little warm jacket to wear over warm t-necks and black slacks or jeans. You could change out the very basic wooden buttons into something a more up-scale and really have a stunning outfit. Also don't let this little jacket fool you - the Alpace is HEAVY so it's warm

"Where did you say your jacket is from? Very unique and beautiful weaving and colors!!!"
