One pattern, 2 shawls.
Each shawl uses the same basic lace stitch pattern, but one has more depth, creating a larger lace shawl.
The lace border is knit sideways; only working the lace pattern over a few stitches makes it easy to follow. Stitches are picked up along the garter stitch edge of the lace border to finish the body of the shawl which is worked in garter stitch. Short rows are used to create some graceful shaping and only yarn overs and K2tog are used for the lace pattern.
This is a great introduction to lace shawl knitting or for the experienced lace shawl knitter a very intuitive stitch pattern that you will be able to memorize.
The directions are written row by row.
Included in the pattern are photos, a list of abbreviations, and a stitch glossary.
Techniques used are, cast on, bind off, slip 1, short rows, yarn over, knit 2 together and make 1.
Level: Advanced beginner to intermediate.
Yarn used: Plymouth Stiletto, any sock or fingering yarn could be substitued. 400yds/366m for the small shawl and 600yds/549m for the larger shawl.
Size 6 needles are used to create a loose gauge of 21 stitches = 4in/10cm in stockinette stitch.
It will be sent to you as an attachment to an email, please verify your email address.

This is a gorgeous pattern. I love the wedges of stockinette, and the points on the one side, and just the asymmetry of it. I just finished knitting it in Casablanca (peacock), which has a long color change and worked really well. The pattern is easy to follow - very clear and complete. I found a row counter a very useful companion for knitting this. It knits up quickly, and the pattern of it quickly becomes second nature. Very pleased...

I'm up to the third "twirl" in the scarf and I am totally in love with how it looks. I will name this the Fortune's Rocks after my beach in Maine. I'll try the mini next. Thank you so much. jeanp
