Here's an Alaskan Extinct Steller's Sea Cow Rib Bone Pendant Necklace. It took Russian fur traders about 20 years to eliminate this species, which was extinct by the 1770s.

48mm x 32.5mm x 7mm.

Strung on waxed cotton cord.

This bone material was unearthed on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, by Native Yupik people. The Yupik use the proceeds to buy life's simple luxuries, and see this as part of their hunting and gathering culture. Indeed, collecting and carving ivory is their only industry. Therefore, buying this piece supports Alaskan aboriginal people.
