Brighten up a dull day or a kitchen wall with a handmade quilt. Each of these little quilts is an approximately 8 1/2 inch square provided with a cloth strap so that it can be hung diagonally from one corner on a picture hook or nail. Each quilt is a unique play of color and texture. Each is made of 5 separate layers: a top layer of colorful pieced cottons, cotton batting, a middle layer of cloth, a layer of dense thermolam (extra dense polyester fleece), and a backing of a contrasting complimentary colored fabric. The top three layers are quilted and then the bottom two layers are quilted to the top three to hold it all together and to provide more textural interest. Finally, these little quilts are finished off with binding. The process is labor intensive and a work of love. The use of five layers, rather than the traditional three, means that these quilts are thick enough to allow you to hold a hot pot and yet are stiff enough to hang virtually flat against the wall.

The first image is is the whole piece hanging on the wall.
The second image a close up of the quilt hanging on the wall.
The third is a detail from the front of the piece.
The forth image shows the back side including the strap for hanging.

I have many of these small quilts in various stages of completion, if you are interested in seeing a specific color combination please feel free to send me a note. I may be able to find, and rapidly finish one more to your taste.
