A vintage sterling silver compote with a small and relatively deep footed bowl. Gadroon (the twisted rope-like pattern) edging decorates an otherwise simple reticulated bowl. Perfect for serving dips and sauces at your next get together. c. 1950's

Silver should not be kept in the dark awaiting some long promised day when it will all be brought out for use and display. By the time that day rolls around you'll be too stressed and tired to remember you have to dig around in the attic to find the silver. Then you'll have to polish it too!

Use it every day, the more you use it the less you'll polish it. Here it is in use as a bright and cheerful holder for garlic on the kitchen counter. Not only will it brighten up your day, the combination of silver and garlic is perfect for keeping vampires out of the kitchen at night! ;~)

In excellent condition. It measures 4.5 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall. No monogram. To provide you with some perspective, in one photo is the back of my standard-sized business card 3.5 x 2 inches (8.9 x 5 cm).

Unless otherwise stated, every item offered by Silver Magpies is sterling silver (i.e 925). If a piece is not sterling it is clearly labelled. Occasionally I offer pieces of silver-plate and silver items made from other standards of silver i.e. 800, 830, 900, 950, etc.

Each item offered has been personally hand inspected, researched and cataloged. Every piece is accompanied to its new home by a curator card recording details of provenance, origin and identity in words and photographs.

In contrast to other dealers, my pieces are never machine buffed to re-create a mirror-bright shine as Silver Magpies cherishes and celebrates the living finish of silver. Every Silver Magpies piece is carefully hand-polished. Patina, that lovely soft, grey sheen indicative of use and care, is the jewel in the crown of antique and vintage silver’s many charms. Discerning collectors prize patina, and its loss through over-zealous hand or machine polishing is to be lamented.
