This historic image of a Mermaid riding on the back of a large fish is surrounded by a watery turquoise pattern.

This image is based on a wax casting taken from a 16th century Austrian marzipan mould, which was probably designed by Hans Krauf. The decorative circle is glazed in my rich Goldenrod yellow, the abstract pattern is glazed in my turquoise crackle gloss. I use transparent crackle glazes which flow from the raised pattern and pool deeper in the recessed areas. The tile measures approximately 3 7/8" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature.
