This historic image of a Mermaid riding on the back of a large fish is surrounded by a watery turquoise pattern.

This image is based on a wax casting taken from a 16th century Austrian marzipan mould, which was probably designed by Hans Krauf. The decorative circle is glazed in my claret maroon, the abstract pattern is glazed in walden green gloss. I use transparent crackle glazes which flow from the raised pattern and pool deeper in the recessed areas. The tile measures approximately 3 7/8" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature.
