This beautiful raku piece was thrown on the pottery wheel. The top of the piece was indented in three places to add some visual interest. The indentations look a bit like ash tray indentations, which seems appropriate given that the raku process involves lots of ash and smoke. The piece was underglazed in a very subtle way, and then carved in a pattern to enhance the results of the raku process. Raku pieces are NOT water tight, so this can be used as a vas for dried flowers or it can be used as a decorative piece. Please do NOT put water directly into the piece. If you want to use it as a regular vase, you should put a glass in the vase and the water into that glass. Before the raku firing, the piece was glazed with a clear crackle glaze. Many of the carved spots were left bare so that the smoke from the raku process would turn those spots black for contrast. The piece is approximately The vase is approximately 11 inches tall and 5 inches wide.

The clay used is a poreclaineous type stoneware that is very smooth to the touch. No grog or sand. Because a white clay was used, you get a much whiter raku piece.
